Anthropic says AI writes almost 100 percent of the code internally, the cloud basically writes it itself now

AI is now writing almost 100 percent of the code on Anthropic. This essentially means that the cloud is writing to the cloud.

Anthropic is rapidly approaching 100 percent automation internally, at least as far as humans writing code by hand are concerned. The company behind viral cloud code and cowork coding tools is currently using AI to generate almost 100 percent of its code. This was confirmed by Anthropic Chief Product Officer Mike Krieger during Cisco’s recent AI Summit. The company had previously estimated that number to be 90 percent but apparently, Anthropic has gone a step further. In other words, the cloud is now writing itself.

“The cloud is being written by the cloud. Cloud products and cloud code are being written entirely by the cloud,” Krieger said in a conversation with Cisco President Jitu Patel. The confirmation means that over the past few months, Anthropic has doubled its use of the cloud within the company. Last year, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said the company could use AI for 90 percent of coding.

Krieger said Anthropic is now regularly generating “2 to 3,000-line pull requests,” especially within its fast-moving lab team. He said the company has put the right systems in place to build trust in the AI’s output, adding, “What we’ve done is created all the right scaffolding around it to make us trust it.”

Anthropic’s consumer-facing products prove conclusively that the cloud is a big hit among coders. Sridhar Vembu, co-founder and CEO of Zoho, recently called it the world’s best coding AI tool. With the latest Opus 4.6 update, Anthropic has shown that the cloud can easily create a C compiler, something that is not easy even for many professionals. At the same time, its coding tool for non-technical people, which is Cloud Cowork, has recently put SaaS or software as a service companies like Infosys and TCS on notice.

When AI is writing 100 percent code one wonders what a human is doing. Krieger reiterates that humans are now involved in inspection and verification. This means that the final code is still being checked by humans. So the question arises, what about large scale coding jobs? Dario Amodei himself has gone on record saying that AI will eliminate 50 percent of white-collar jobs by 2030, raising concerns about whether manually writing software will soon become redundant, which many industry veterans like Ryan Dahl, creator of NodeJS, are also flagging. Sridhar Vembu has even urged software engineers to explore alternative careers. “We will pay better attention to them because they have the best coding tools in the world,” he said, reacting to Amodei’s video at the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos. Where the Anthropic CEO openly claimed that “software engineering will be completely obsolete in 6-12 months.”
