Animal: Arshad Warsi praises Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film; says ‘I enjoyed watching it’

Even months after its release, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s 2023 film, Animal continues to be a topic of discussion. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, Animal received a mixed response from the audience. Many fans, including film personalities, loved the film, but a section of cinephiles strongly criticised the Ranbir-starrer for glorifying toxic masculinity and misogyny. Arshad Warsi, who is now gearing up for Welcome to the Jungle and Jolly LLB 3, is the latest celebrity to have “enjoyed watching” the Vanga directorial.

Recently during an interview on UNFILTERED by Samdish, Arshad Warsi praised Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Animal and said that he had not seen such a world before.

Arshad said, “I haven’t seen that world. It’s probably some man’s imagination. I enjoyed watching it.”

Arshad was talking about how films are meant to entertain, not educate. The Golmaal actor also said that audiences watched Marvel Studios’ Avengers because it “created a world we had never seen before”.

The Munnabhai MBBS actor also appreciated Anurag Kashyap’s style of filmmaking, saying that he doesn’t bore him as the Kennedy director shows him a different world.

Meanwhile, Arshad Warsi also spoke about the ‘terrifying’ experience he had on the sets of Priyadarshan’s 2004 film Hulchul. Arshad recalled meeting the late screenwriter Neeraj Vora for the romantic comedy and said he narrated the idea of the 2004 film to him using references from Hera Pheri.

Vora cited the example of Akshay Kumar’s role in Hera Pheri to explain Arshad’s character to Hulchul, he recalled. Arshad initially agreed to play his character after hearing the reference. Later, when the actor checked his costumes on the set, he realised that the description of his role was correct, however, it was “nowhere close to that situation”.

The Hulchul actor said that he wore his own clothes in the film and waited for the movie to get over.

Talking about Animal, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma had earlier praised the Ranbir Kapoor film and stressed how Vanga’s directorial had done better at the box office than films with bigger production-value.

Apart from him, Vidya Balan and Anurag Kashyap have also praised ‘Animal’ earlier. However, actors like Ratna Pathak Shah and Adil Hussain did not support this film starring Ranbir Kapoor.

Animal also featured Anil Kapoor, Tripti Dimri and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles.
