His caption means – “India’s incredible victory in the Chess Olympiad!!! Chess players, the whole of India is grateful. Our chest swells with pride as we hoist the tricolour.”

The 81-year-old superstar’s post reflects the collective national pride after India emerged champions. The team’s victory was ensured when USA held Kazakhstan to a 2-2 draw, eliminating the need for a tie-break. Had Kazakhstan won, the competition would have gone into an extra round.

India’s success was thanks to D. Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and R. Praggnanandhaa, who won their respective matches in the 11th and final round to give India its first gold medal in the prestigious tournament.

World Championship Challenger D Gukesh played a key role in India’s victory, particularly in his remarkable win against Slovenia’s Vladimir Fedoseev. Despite facing immense pressure as Black, the 18-year-old Grandmaster displayed impressive tactics and technical prowess to secure a hard-fought victory and contribute to India’s historic moment.

Amitabh Bachchan’s tribute contributes to the growing recognition of India’s chess stars, whose skill and determination have brought honour to the country on the global stage.
