Vijay’s appearance comes at a time when Jan NayganDirected by H Vinoth, is embroiled in a certification controversy. The film, originally scheduled to release on January 9, is widely believed to be Vijay’s final film before formally venturing into active politics ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.
The project is currently awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Madras High Court recently quashed an earlier direction pushing for certification of the film and sent the case back to a lower bench. Neither the film’s producers, KVN Productions, nor the CBFC have so far issued a public statement on the issue.
The CBFC has since filed a caveat in the Supreme Court, seeking to hear its side before passing any order regarding the release of the film.
