Thalapathy Vijay has given many hit films in his career as an actor. These include the 2016 action film Theri, which became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year. As the actor’s last film is getting delayed, the makers of Theri have announced to re-release it in theatres.
Theri will be re-released in theaters
On January 10, 2026, producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Thalapathy Vijay’s There will be returning to theatres. This was announced with the latest poster of the film. However, the producer did not reveal the date on which Atlee’s power-packed entertainer will hit the theatres.

Vijay’s mass entertainment announcement of the re-release comes at a time when his swan song, Jana Nayakan, is facing delays due to certification. There are rumors that the makers will bring Theer back to the big screen to cater to the Pongal holidays, which was earlier booked for the actor’s final film.
For the unaware, Theri managed to entertain the audience and become a blockbuster due to its mass appeal and impactful story depicting the father-daughter bond. While Vijay has held down the fort, he is also joined by actors like Samantha Ruth and Amy Jackson, making it irresistible for the audience.
Directed by Atlee, the film revolves around DCP Vijaya Kumar, who is forced to return to his dangerous past when his daughter’s life is in danger. To protect his beloved child, Kumar takes up the reins again to deal with the enemies. The Tamil-language film became so popular that it was remade in Hindi as Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Zara Zayana and Jackie Shroff.
