According to Amazon, Ask This Book is designed to answer questions the user has about the book they are reading and provide spoiler-free responses tailored to their current position in the text. Responses include plot details, characters, and relevant themes, which enhances comprehension while keeping readers from learning information ahead of time.

Essentially, when you ask the AI ​​chatbot a question about a book, it will answer you only from the information available on the pages you read, or from the text you highlighted. This will ensure that you will not receive any bad messages from the unread part of the book.

Ask This Book is currently available on the Kindle app for iOS in the US. Amazon plans to expand its availability to Kindle devices and Android next year. However, the company has not yet given any timeline for the global rollout.

Authors cannot opt ​​out of Ask This Book

Amazon spokesperson Elle Iraheta told Publishers Lunch that the Ask This Book feature will always be operational. Furthermore, no author or publisher can opt out of this AI chatbot for their books.

According to Iraheta, Ask This Book answers are “non-shareable and non-copyable”, and are only available to readers who have purchased or rented books from Kindle.
