Listen to the story

Apple is all set to unveil the new iPhone 16 series globally on Monday, September 9. But iPhone 16 specification rumours are doing the rounds even before the launch date and time is announced. While Apple is yet to confirm the details, iPhone 16 leaks give a realistic idea of what the lineup will look like. Rumor has it that the iPhone 16 will follow traditions by bringing four devices to the line-up: iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. But that’s just the beginning, we have the full list. Let’s take a look at every rumour, leak, and anticipation for the iPhone 16.
iPhone 16 specs: What will it contain?
design: Let’s start with the design of the upcoming line-up. The iPhone 16 is expected to change the look in the base model and remove the diagonal rear camera with a square module. Apple has been designing square modules since the iPhone 11. But now, it may revamp the iPhone X design language. As per rumours, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature vertically stacked cameras housed in a capsule-shaped module.
However, the iPhone 16 Pro models will continue with the same triple-camera setup as the previous models. The iPhone 16 line-up is also expected to come with playful colour options such as white, black, blue, green, and pink.
Display: With the new line-up, Apple may be planning to bring bigger displays. The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature slightly bigger screens than the existing iPhone 16 Pro models. The screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro is rumoured to increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro Max may increase from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. It is also being speculated that the iPhone 16 line-up will feature thinner bezels. The combination of a bigger display and thinner bezels is likely to make the overall viewing experience better. However, the larger screen size hinders using the device with a single hand.
Processor: The iPhone 16 series will likely be powered by the A18 chip. All models in the series will also be equipped with 8GB of RAM, which is necessary to support the new Apple Intelligence feature. Earlier, Apple was making the base model and the Pro model with different chipsets. For example, the iPhone 15 has the A16 chipset and the iPhone 15 Pro Max has the A17 chip. But now that has been discontinued. The new A18 indicates faster performance and better energy efficiency. Apple is rumoured to be working on a graphene thermal system for the iPhone 16 lineup, with the Pro models possibly incorporating a metal battery casing to reduce overheating. Additionally, Apple may consider offering Pro models with up to 2TB of storage, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Battery: Not just the design, Apple is also planning to make some changes to its device. According to leaks and rumors, The iPhone 16 is said to have a larger 3,561mAh battery, while the iPhone 16 Plus could have a 4,006mAh battery. On the other hand, the Pro model could get an increased battery boost. The iPhone 16 Pro will have a 3,577mAh battery, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max could have a 4,676mAh battery.
The iPhone 16 series is expected to have 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe charging support, which will increase the charging time due to the larger battery. However, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Camera: Last but not least, the camera is getting even better with the iPhone 16. Apple is experimenting with anti-reflective optical coating for its iPhone cameras. This technology is said to be aimed at enhancing photo quality by reducing issues like lens flare and ghosting. The coating, which is applied via atomic layer deposition (ALD) equipment, will not only protect the camera lens system from environmental damage but also maintain its ability to capture light effectively.
The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature an upgraded 48-megapixel ultra wide camera lens, which allows for better low-light performance and 48-megapixel ProRAW photo shooting in ultra wide mode. The iPhone 16 Pro Max may also feature a super telephoto periscope camera, which significantly improves optical zoom capabilities. Both iPhone 16 Pro models may come with support for 5x optical zoom, which is currently limited to only the iPhone 15 Pro Max smartphones.
iPhone 16 series: How much will it cost?
The iPhone 16 series is expected to be the main highlight during the launch event. While we are still speculating, rumours and leaks have already predicted the price of the iPhone 16 series. According to Apple Hub, the upcoming iPhones will be priced starting at $799. The Apple iPhone 16 is expected to start at $799 (roughly Rs. 67,100), while the iPhone 16 Plus could be priced at $899 (roughly Rs. 75,500). As for the Pro models, the Apple iPhone 16 Pro could be priced at $1,099 (roughly Rs. 92,300) for the 256GB variant, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max could start at $1,199 (roughly Rs. 1,00,700).
While these leaked prices are for the US market, prices in India could be slightly higher than in global markets. For instance, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro was launched at a price of Rs 1,34,900, and the Pro Max was priced at Rs 1,59,900. In India, the iPhone 15 had a starting price of Rs 79,900 for the 128GB storage option, while the Plus model was available for Rs 89,900. The iPhone 16 and its Plus variant could also be priced similarly, though the Pro model could see a slight price hike due to new features and higher production costs.
