‘All British people should die’: Irish woman convicted after making ‘anti-English’ remarks in UK hotel world News

A 40-year-old woman in Britain has been convicted of racially aggravated assault after verbally abusing hotel staff during an incident in Cheshire.Cat O’Halloran, an Irishman who lives in Littlehampton, West Sussex, pleaded guilty at Warrington Magistrates’ Court. He was fined £614 and ordered to pay £331 in costs and surcharge.According to the Daily Mail, the court heard that the incident happened at a Holiday Inn in Runcorn on January 17, when police were called following reports of an intoxicated woman behaving aggressively towards staff.Prosecutor Omar Zeb told the court that O’Halloran behaved abusively when requesting a replacement key card at reception. He said, “A 999 report was made from the Holiday Inn in Runcorn that a woman was extremely drunk and was verbally abusive to staff. This was anti-English abuse.”She said that during the conversation, he made comments that included: “He’s a living being” and “All British people should die.”According to the prosecution, O’Halloran later returned to the reception area and directed further abuse at staff members.Zeb said, “She became verbally abusive and said they should ‘burn in hell’ and ‘all British people should burn in hell’.” “He told the two employees, ‘Go away and die’.”The court was told O’Halloran had no previous convictions. His lawyer Peter Green said the incident was out of character and related to alcohol consumption.“This is completely contrary to his character. There is no previous crime registered against him,” he said.“Clearly, alcohol played a role in this crime. Miss O’Halloran’s memory and recollection are somewhat foggy. She is traumatized by her actions.”During sentencing, Magistrate Paula Jones pleaded guilty and showed remorse. He said, “It is clear that you accept responsibility for this crime and acknowledge your remorse which makes a huge difference in these cases.”After the hearing, O’Halloran was informed that the conviction would form part of his criminal record.Official figures show that in the year ending March 2025, police recorded almost 98,000 race-related hate crimes in England and Wales, with a significant proportion of victims identifying as white.
