Alia Bhatt’s Alpha gets U/A 16+ certificate after CBFC modifies violent scenes
Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s Alpha has received CBFC approval ahead of its release, but not before several changes were made. Here’s what was changed and why.

Actress Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s much-awaited spy thriller Alpha It has received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) before its theatrical release. As of the certification dated June 29, 2026, the Hindi version of the film with English subtitles has been given a U/A 16+ certificate after the makers implemented several modifications suggested by the board.
CBFC records show that the changes mainly relate to violent scenes and language. Among the revisions, some scenes were changed, several stabbing sequences were reduced using alternate shots, and an explicit word was removed from the film. No footage was removed, with the board approving replacement scenes and edits instead.

What changes did CBFC ask producers to make?
Certification documents reveal that the board instructed the filmmakers to change a scene scheduled to appear at 25 minutes and 49 seconds. It also asked for the multiple stabbing sequence to be softened over 1 hour, 36 minutes and 41 seconds by using alternating shots.
Additionally, a vulgar word used at 35 minutes and 53 seconds was removed, while another scene at 38 minutes and 12 seconds was modified. These revisions were completed before the film received certification.
Were there any other certification requirements?
In addition to content editing, the CBFC directed the production team to revise the opening disclaimer and ensure that English subtitles were added to all songs. The Board asked to display anti-alcohol static disclaimers wherever applicable and directed manufacturers to include all mandatory certification cards and last-scroll information as per GSR-E Rule 22, 1983.
The production was also required to submit the film’s dialogue script, provide parental consent form for the child actor, and clarify the final length of the film as part of the certification process.
How long is the alpha and when is it releasing?
After necessary modifications, Alpha was certified with an approved runtime of 140 minutes and 48 seconds, making it just under two hours and 21 minutes long.
Produced by Yash Raj Films, Alpha It stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in the lead roles and is the latest addition to the expanding YRF spy universe. Now with the CBFC formalities completed, the film has crossed an important milestone ahead of its theatrical release.
