Airtel has revised two of its popular prepaid recharge plans by early 2025, a move likely in line with the recent directive of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The update reportedly focuses on providing special tariff vouchers (STV) with voice and SMS benefits, but data offerings have been reduced. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Airtel has a Rs 509 prepaid recharge plan, which is the company’s old pack but the benefits have been refreshed. This plan is still valid for 84 days and now it targets users who mainly need voice calls with no limits and lots of SMS benefits without any mobile data benefits. It comes with unlimited voice calls and 900 SMS.
Earlier this plan also included 6GB data, but the updated pack has removed it. Airtel users will still get additional benefits like free access to Airtel Xstream app, Apollo 24/7 Circle subscription and Hello Tunes. Those who need some data can consider purchasing the Rs 569 Airtel prepaid plan as it comes with 6GB mobile data along with the same voice and SMS benefits.
Now, the second Airtel prepaid recharge plan that has been revised is its Rs 1,999 annual pack. While it continues to offer unlimited voice calls and 3,000 free SMS, the 24GB mobile data previously included has been removed. Users of this plan can still enjoy additional services like Airtel Xstream app, Apollo 24/7 circle subscription and Hello Tunes.
These changes are in response to TRAI’s order requiring operators to offer STV for voice and SMS services. This means that the new Airtel plans, while offering stronger voice and SMS benefits, now come with fewer data options, requiring customers to purchase separate data packs if needed. One can also consider purchasing other packs which offer unlimited benefits. Additionally, the charges for SMS in excess of the free limit have been set at Rs 1 for local and Rs 1.5 for STD.
