Amit Gupta, the country head of IT veteran Tech Mahindra in Qatar, was picked up by the state security of the Gulf country on 1 January and has been in custody for the last three months. The report of Mr. Gupta, said, has been detained in connection with the investigation in a data theft case. Teki’s wife and elderly parents are now running to post from the pillar to ensure their release. Sources in the government have said that the Indian embassy in Qatar is working to find a solution to the problem with Mr. Gupta’s family and Katri officials.
A blow custody
Amit Gupta, who moved from Vadodara, Gujarat to Katri Rajdhani Doha in 2013, was detained on 1 January. “He was seated for about 48 hours without food. Then he was shifted to a room and was now kept for about three months,” his mother Pushpa Gupta told the news agency’s insure. Asked if he knew the reasons for his custody, he replied, “Someone in the company may have done something, he (Gupta) was arrested because he is the head of the country.”
1 phone call every week
Ms. Gupta said that she gets a 5 -minute call from Amit Gupta every Wednesday and this is her only contact with her son. “We recently went and stayed in Doha for a month. After the intervention of the Indian ambassador, we were allowed to meet her for half an hour. She told us what she is doing,” she said. The couple met Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi for help and assured them that they would take up the matter with the government.
What the government has said
A source in the Ministry of External Affairs said that the Indian embassy in Qatar is helping Amit Gupta’s family. “Our embassy in Qatar is aware of the detention of an Indian citizen Amit Gupta, which is in connection with an ongoing investigation by Qatari officials. The mission has been in contact with the family, regularly Amit Gupta and the lawyer representing the Qatari officials have continued to provide all possible assistance in the matter.”
What has Tech Mahindra said
The IT veteran has said that it is in touch with the family and providing them necessary help. The Tech Mahindra spokesperson said, “We are in close contact with the family, provide them necessary help. We are actively coordinating with the authorities in both countries and following the fixed process. It is our top priority to ensure the good of our colleague.”
