After the buzz of the biopic on legendary singer Kishore Kumar, music lovers who loved the 60s have a new reason to celebrate. Recently, at the International Film Festival of India, Shahid Rafi, son of iconic singer Mohammed Rafi, announced that he will soon officially announce a biopic on the life of his late father on his birth centenary on December 24, 2024.

At the ongoing film festival, a special tribute was paid to the legendary singer, where Rafi’s significant impact on the music industry was discussed. Speaking at the special session titled Aasmaan Se Aaya Farishta-Mohammad Rafi: The King of Melody, the legendary singer’s son confirmed that they will soon be making a biopic on the Aaj Mausam Bada Beimaan Hai singer.

Furthermore, he also revealed that he and filmmaker Umesh Shukla are in talks to make the film. For those unaware, Shukla has helmed popular films like Akshay Kumar starrer OMG-Oh My God! And Amitabh Bachchan starrer 102 Not Out.

He said, “The announcement will be made in December. I am making a biopic on Rafi Sahab. We are planning. It will be the life story of Rafi Sahab. Songs will also be a part of the biopic. We have signed the contract.” OMG-OH MY GOD! And 102 Not Out director Umesh Shukla will have a full feature film.”

The special segment also featured veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, singers Sonu Nigam and Anuradha Paudwal and filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who shared their thoughts on the legendary singer.

Mohammed Rafi was one of India’s most popular singers, recording over 25,000 songs in his career. He had a long career of almost 40 years. The singer is credited with singing popular songs like Ye Reshmi Zulfen, Aaj Mausam Bada Beimaan Hai, Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe, Chaudhavin Ka Chand Ho and many other popular songs, which keeps enthralling the audience with their soulful tunes.

Rafi rose to prominence in the 60s, singing songs for over 1,000 films in various languages ​​including Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi. He died of a heart attack in 1980, and a film based on his life’s journey will be a great treat for his fans who admire his work to this day.
