With the buzz surrounding casting and filming for director SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film, Varanasi at an all-time high, it looks like a new update is coming our way. On 18 February, it was noted that actor Kiccha Sudeep has been cast to play a pivotal role in the film. The makers have not yet confirmed whether these reports are true or not.

News of Kiccha Sudeep joining Varanasi

Amidst much speculation over the cast of Varanasi, a new report in India Today claims that actor Kiccha Sudeep has been roped in to play a pivotal role. If this turns out to be true, this will be the third collaboration between the star and the filmmaker, after their joint work on Eega and then Baahubali: The Beginning. Although his previous appearance was brief, his impact was notable, making it a high possibility.

The actor himself talked about playing memorable roles rather than bigger roles, especially when he looks at cameos in his filmography. Official confirmation on the possible casting of Kiccha Sudeep is awaited.

about varanasi

The globetrotting feature film combines the Indian epic, Ramayana, into a grander version in the style of SS Rajamouli. It will see the lead character Rudra played by Mahesh Babu, who shows aspects of Lord Ram in his role, who travels to different timelines to save mankind on Earth. The film stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas as the female lead Mandakini, and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the villain Kumbha, who is wheelchair-bound. The film is currently being shot across various locations, with a multiple shoot schedule including extensive VFX work and long-running domestic and international filming.

Recently, Prakash Raj was featured as another actor in the film, playing the role of ‘an ardent Lord Shiva devotee’. While more details are awaited, Varanasi is currently in production, set for theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
