After confirming political entry, actor Raghav Lawrence asks fans to say yes or no
Actor-director Raghava Lawrence shared an 18-minute video on X to explain his political interest and seek a yes or no response from fans. Earlier in an ex-post he had said that several circumstances had prompted him to consider entering politics.
After confirming his political entry, actor and choreographer Raghava Lawrence has now asked his fans to tell if he should enter politics. In an 18-minute video shared on X, Lawrence talked about his interest in public life and how his mother agreed with his political dreams, before going on to confirm his admission.
Starting his message with the line, “Do your duty but expect nothing in return,” Lawrence said his main aim in life is to serve through charitable work. In the same video, he explained how Rajinikanth’s political plans impressed him, before moving on to Thalapathy Vijay’s ambitions, leading to fresh speculations on whether he might ally with Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), amid discussions about the Trichy East seat.

In the video, Lawrence said that his admiration for Rajinikanth once made him seriously consider joining the superstar’s political movement. He said that he had sought the blessings of his mother, for whom he had also built a temple, but it was not approved by her. According to Lawrence, he described politics as Sakkadai (Water evacuation). He said that when he told Rajinikanth about this, the actor asked him to wait.

Lawrence further said that he later learned about Rajinikanth’s health issues and his decision to step back from politics. Rajinikanth had announced his political entry on December 31, 2017, but he later withdrew it and dissolved Rajini Makkal Mandram in July 2021.
Lawrence said that those developments led him to turn his attention back to films, including Kanchana series.
He said the idea of entering politics came back when Thalapathy Vijay announced his political plans in 2024. Lawrence said he informed his mother again, but she reiterated her disapproval. He also said that he had mentioned it to him Nanban (Friend) Vijay, who advised him to wait.
According to Lawrence, his mother’s stance changed years later when Vijay registered a historic victory in the Tamil Nadu 2026 elections, making the TVK chief the chief minister of the state in his first attempt. Lawrence said she then gave her approval, which made him excited.
Still, Lawrence did not confirm whether he would attend the victory party or not. Instead, he asked his fans to answer yes or no in the comments and said he would put his political future in their hands.
The comment section below the video is filled with congratulatory messages from followers, who inspired them to join Vijay’s TVK.
Hours before sharing the video to seek public acknowledgement, Lawrence explained that circumstances had led him to enter politics.
His comments have sparked speculation that he may be fielded from Trichy East, a constituency linked to Vijay. The discussion also mentioned Vijay’s victory in Trichy East and Perambur in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23, including his victory by 27,416 votes over DMK candidate Inigo Irudayaraj in Trichy East.
Vijay later abandoned Trichy East and decided to retain Perambur, reportedly due to its proximity to the state secretariat.
For now, Lawrence has made it clear that politics remains on his mind and has outlined the events that shaped that thinking, from Rajinikanth’s abandoned political move to the rise of Vijay. However, they have not announced a final decision and instead asked their fans to decide whether they should take the next step or not.
