Actress Swastika Mukherjee has criticized former cricketer Sourav Ganguly’s comments regarding the tragic drowning of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee during the filming of a Bengali show. Bhole Baba will cross In Odisha on 29 March.

Ganguly described the incident as “very unfortunate”, but questioned why Rahul entered the water despite being part of the shooting. This comment provoked strong reactions on social media.

He compared Ganguly’s comment to a hypothetical condescending comment that can undermine one’s profession and income, emphasizing that such an attitude diminishes the value of others’ work.

He also pointed out that not everyone is expected to understand every area. Swastika said that while Ganguly enjoys privileged access to his projects, others like Rahul do not get the same support. Highlighting the wider challenges of the industry, he suggested that if Rahul had not entered the water, some other actor would have taken his place.

Rahul’s death has put a renewed focus on safety protocols within the Bengali entertainment sector. Reports suggest that Rahul and co-actress Shweta Mishra were filming a scene in knee-deep water when they slipped into the ditch. Although both were taken to a hospital in Digha, Rahul could not survive.
