Malayalam actress Rima Kallingal has sent a defamation notice to playback singer Suchitra after she accused the actress of hosting rave parties. Suchitra also criticised the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) and commented on the formation of the Hema Committee.

Malayalam actress Rima Kallingal, who is the co-founder of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), has filed a defamation case against Tamil playback singer Suchitra over her derogatory comments against her. In a recent interview, Suchitra claimed that Rima hosted rave parties with her partner Aashiq Abu and was ‘arrested’ for it. Rima shared a note dismissing the rumours and filed a complaint with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) against Suchitra.
Suchitra said that these rave parties were the reason for the end of Reema’s career. SS MusicThe singer said that Mohanlal and Mammootty disrupted the careers of actors like Fahadh Faasil and also talked about WCC.
Rima Kallingal shared a statement, writing, “Over the years, many of you have stood by the WCC and its cause. It is that support and belief that inspires me to write to you now. Over the past two days, several news outlets have reported statements made by Tamil singer Suchitra in an interview with a YouTube channel (sic).”
The WCC was formed after a popular Malayalam actor was abducted and assaulted in a moving car in 2017. A group of 10 women from the Malayalam industry, including Manju Warrier, Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, Remya Nambisan, formed the collective to make the industry a better and safer work place for women.
He said, “In the 30-minute interview, he not only named and shamed the 2017 sexual assault victim, claiming that the victim “knew it was going to happen”, but also alleged that CM Pinarayi (Vijayan), Mohanlal and Mammootty conspired through the Hema committee to ruin the careers of actors like Fahadh. We all know why the Hema committee was formed, and anyone suggesting the contrary should be questioned.”
Talking about rumours about his ‘arrest’, he wrote, “While these wild theories did not make it to mainstream news, their baseless statements about me – based on a newsworthy article they read about my so-called “arrest” – did make the headlines. Let me make it clear that no such incident ever took place.”
Reema decided to take legal action and filed a complaint with the SIT and sent a defamation notice.
He concluded his post with, “To those who believe in our cause, let us continue to move forward together. Thank you for your support.”
Earlier, Suchitra had received a defamation notice from her ex-husband Karthik Kumar after she made bold claims against him in a YouTube interview and called him gay. Following this, she publicly apologised on her YouTube channel after police intervention.
