According to an official statement shared by actor Sudeepa Chatterjee on social media, actor Rajesh Sharma suffered insect bites while shooting for a film starring Prabhas in Ramoji Film City. It is suspected that the bite was caused by a bug or poisonous spider. The 45-year-old actor is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata.

Chatterjee said that Sharma is not out of danger yet. He continues to suffer from high fever, shortness of breath and a rapidly spreading infection in his right leg, while doctors are closely monitoring his condition and conducting further investigation and treatment.

According to the statement, the incident occurred after pack-up, when Sharma was talking to local technicians in an area surrounded by dense vegetation. At that time he felt an insect bite, but it did not seem serious and he did not seek immediate medical attention.

After about six hours, he started having severe pain in his right leg and his health also started deteriorating. Despite this, he boarded the flight back to Kolkata. During the journey he developed high fever, became increasingly restless and his condition worsened.

The next day, Sharma was admitted to Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria. More than a day has passed since then and he is still suffering from high fever, shortness of breath and a rapidly growing infection in his right leg, the statement said. It said the infection had spread from her toes to her knee, and large blisters had developed on the affected area.

Referring to the medical condition, the statement said that Dr. Avijit Bhattacharya has advised that it is too early to make any definitive assessment. “Rajesh is under strict observation and is not out of danger yet,” it said.

Doctors are also keeping an eye on possible complications, including the risk of blood clots that could become life-threatening if they travel to the lungs.

Chatterjee said further medical updates will be shared after the hospital team issues an official assessment. He also thanked those who supported him, including the media, the Bengal Motion Pictures Artistes Forum, Sharma’s friends and well-wishers, and “above all, Mr. Prosenjit Chatterjee”, whom he described as a constant source of guidance and support during these difficult times.

Sharma is known for his work in Hindi films. Khosla Ka Ghosla, Ishqiya, No One Killed Jessica, Chillar Party, The Dirty Picture, Love Shav Te Chicken Khurana, Special 26, BA Pass, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story And India’s Most Wanted.
