Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, known for his roles in Inception and 500 Days of Summer, revealed that he was ‘completely captivated’ by Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The American actor, who is currently in India for a program, said it made him ‘curious to know more about Indian cinema’ and that watching the film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali felt like a Martin Scorsese film.

Speaking with actor Rajkummar Rao at the Indian Film Project (IFP) in Mumbai, Joseph Gordon-Levitt shared his experiences and love for Indian cinema. He praised Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, saying that it was different from any film he had seen before.

He said, “I loved watching Alia Bhatt’s period drama, Gangubai Kathiawadi. It was a really unique and beautiful film, different from anything I had seen before. This heavy, specific drama felt almost like a Scorsese film at times , but then there were these gorgeous musical numbers that were so honest and well-crafted.”

Joseph went on to explain how Gangubai Kathiawadi inspired him to make films in India. “I found myself completely mesmerized by the film. It made me curious to know more about Indian cinema, which is why I wanted to come to India. I have a real passion for the culture and the films and the artists. Like. I’d love to do that.” Come back to India and make a film here”, he said.
