Actor Eric Dane ALS breaks silence on the fight: will soon lose dynamics on the left

Actor Eric Dane is dear to his roles in ‘Gray’s Anatomy’ and ‘Euphoria’, shared a deep emotional update about his ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) diagnosis. In an interview with Good morning americaThe actor broke down as he revealed that he had a ‘working hand’.
Fighting tears, Dane admitted that the condition had already taken a serious toll on his arm. He said, “I am working on my left, my right side has been stopped working completely. I think maybe a few more months and I will not have my left hand. It is very calm.”
The 52 -year -old star revealed his diagnosis in April 2025. “I wake up every day, and I am immediately reminded that this is happening. It’s not a dream,” he told Dianne Sawyer. Dane first began to experience symptoms a year and a half ago when he saw weakness in his right hand.
He explained, “I didn’t really think anything about it at that time. I felt that maybe I was doing a lot of textiles or my hand was tired, but after a few weeks I saw that it was a bit spoiled. So I went and saw a hand specialist who sent me to another hand specialist and sent me to another neurologist and said that my payment is sent to another neurologist.
Ameyotrophic leteral sclerosis (ALS), or Lu Gehrig disease, is a rare neurodynative disease that gradually paralyzes the muscles. Early symptoms can cause muscle cramps, weakness in organs and speech loss. Over time, the patient loses muscle power to move, speak and breathe at the end.
There is no cure, but after being diagnosed, there is a normal life expectancy three to five years, although some patients last long.
Speaking about the unbreakable support received from his family – especially his wife, Rebecca Gahart – a blind emotional Eric Dane shared, “We have managed to become better friends and better parents. He is probably my greatest champion and my most stalwart supporter, and I have bowed to him.”
The actor also recalled a darker personal moment during a snorkeling trip, when his daughter had to help her back on the boat after realizing, she did not have the strength to swim.
“He pulled me back to the boat. I broke into tears,” Dane said. “But I made sure that she returned to the water with her friend and continued snorkeling. I was just heartbroken.”
Despite the diagnosis, Eric Dane is ready to return to the highly awaited third season of ‘enthusiasm’. He shared, “In my heart, I don’t think this is the end for me. I am fighting as much as possible. There is a lot about it that is out of my control.”
Expressing his pain over his father’s suicide, Eric Dane said, “I am angry because my father was taken from me at the age of seven, and now there is a very real possibility that I will be taken from my daughters while he is still young.”
Apart from ‘Euphoria 3’, Dane is also gearing up for the release of its next series, ‘Countdown’. This will be a premiere on Prime Video on 25 June.
