Bengali actor Dev Adhikari has come out in solidarity with the protests following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. In view of the outrage, Dev has also postponed the teaser release of his upcoming Bengali film ‘Khadaan’.

Dev said in a statement on Instagram, “We are deeply saddened and outraged following the tragic and horrific incident that took place at RG Kar Medical Hospital. As a team that stands firmly against such atrocities, we have decided to postpone the release of the teaser of our film “Khadaan”. Our focus at this time must be on getting justice for the victim. We urge that the culprits be brought to justice as soon as possible. Our condolences are with the victim’s family and we stand with them in their quest for justice.”

Dev, who is also a Trinamool Congress MP, began shooting for the film in February 2024. It also stars Jisshu Sengupta.

A 31-year-old post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor was found dead at the government RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 (Friday). A civic volunteer was arrested on Saturday in connection with the case. The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday handed over the investigation into the murder and rape of a trainee doctor in Kolkata to the CBI.
