Tamil actor Ajith Kumar’s mother Mohini Mani passed away at the age of 85 after battling age-related health issues. The film fraternity, political leaders and fans across India have expressed their condolences while honoring his memory.
Tamil actor Ajith Kumar is mourning the demise of his mother Mohini Mani, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 85. According to a statement shared by the family, she was suffering from age-related health issues and passed away at a private hospital in Chennai.
In the official statement, the family described her as “the heart of our family” and remembered her for her unconditional love, strength, wisdom and grace.
Mohini Mani lived in Palavakkam area of Chennai. The news of his death brought condolences from film industry members, political leaders and fans across the country.
Ajith, who was reportedly in Dubai when the news broke, returned to Chennai to be with his family during this difficult time.
Film industry, political leaders paid tribute
Among those who expressed condolences were Chief Minister Vijay, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, veteran actor Kamal Haasan, actress Radhika Sarathkumar, among others.
In his statement, CM Vijay wrote, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Smt. Mohini Ammaiyar, mother of my dear friend Shri Ajith Kumar. I pray that her soul rests in peace at the feet of God. I express my deepest condolences to my friend Shri Ajith Kumar – who is grieving the loss of a mother who stood as a pillar of strength and provided loving care at every stage of his life – and to his family members (sic) For.”

He also said that the Tamil Nadu government has directed officials to conduct the last rites of Mohini Mani with full state honours.

Radhika Sarathkumar also shared a message, writing, “Dear #Ajit, very sad to hear about your mother’s demise. Condolences to the family and prayers for strength in this sad phase of your life. May her soul rest in peace.”

Mohini Mani is survived by her three sons Ajit Kumar, Anup Kumar and Anil Kumar and their families. Her husband PS Mani died on 24 March 2023.
