"Act of God": Vivek Ramaswami says he survived after attempted assassination of Trump

Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy today condemned the attack on former US President Donald Trump, who suffered an ear injury during an assassination attempt at an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“We believe the fact that Trump is safe right now is nothing short of an act of God,” Ramaswamy, who challenged the 78-year-old politician for the Republican presidential nomination in the primaries, wrote in a lengthy post on X.

“My heart says God has intervened not only for Trump, but for our country.

“Today, the future of the United States is a hair’s breadth away from being hit by a bullet,” Ramaswami said.

He continued to praise Trump, saying Americans “have had a chance to see the true character of our next president.”

“He faced fire, he faced blows, he experienced blood and then he stood up for the people he was sent here to lead,” Ramaswami said.

However, he attacked US President Joe Biden and said, “First they sued him. Then they sued him. Then they tried to remove him from the ballot. What’s even more tragic about what just happened is that, if we’re being honest, it wasn’t a complete shock.”

“Biden’s inevitable condemnation of political violence today (when it happens) will be inadequate and irrelevant. No amount of rhetoric today can change the toxic national climate that led to this tragedy,” he said.

He said no matter who you vote for, let’s unite in the fact that what happened today is “unacceptable now and forever.”

His lengthy post prompted a response from billionaire Elon Musk, who had earlier reacted to the shocking firing by instantly backing Trump.

“This is exactly what you predicted,” Musk said. Ramaswami replied, “I was fully expecting to be proven wrong.”

Trump had just begun speaking at a campaign rally in the town of Butler when gunfire broke out.

Video footage showed him holding his ear as the shots were fired. Trump, with his face covered in blood, was quickly rescued by US Secret Service agents.

“I was shot in the upper part of my right ear,” he said shortly after the incident.

The attacker was identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, who was also shot and killed by a member of the Secret Service.

One spectator was killed and two others were seriously injured in the firing.
