according to ANIMaulana Ibrahim Hussain, known as the royal chief mufti of the Muslim personal Darul Ifta, issued a fatwa on Aamir’s marriage to Gauri, saying it was not acceptable under Sharia because he was not a Muslim.
In a video that surfaced online, the cleric said that Islam bars Muslim men from marrying non-Muslim women. He further said that anyone attending such a marriage would be committing a sin and those who refuse to accept it would ultimately be accountable to Allah.
The cleric also said that he strongly objected to Aamir’s third marriage and said that such relationships tarnish the image of Sharia and Islam.
This comment has sparked an online discussion, drawing mixed reactions from social media users.
The controversy came to light when Aamir addressed allegations of “love jihad” surrounding his marriage, saying that his family has always embraced interfaith relationships and that neither Gauri Spratt, Reena Dutta nor Kiran Rao have changed their religion. He had said that all three marriages were civil marriages.
Gauri Spratt is a Bengaluru-based entrepreneur in the beauty and wellness industry. He also has a son from his previous marriage.
Before marrying Gauri, Aamir was married to Reena Dutta, with whom he has two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. The couple got divorced in 2002 after 16 years of marriage. She later married film producer Kiran Rao in 2005. The couple welcomed their son Azad Rao Khan via surrogacy in 2011 before announcing their separation in 2021.
