Listen to the story

In short
- Date date to update online update details for free is indirect on 14 June
- Free service is available only for demographic details
- Biometric update still requires Aadhaar enrollment center travel
Do you want to update your base details? Well, you can make it online for free till 14 June. Free Aadhaar update service was announced last year by India’s Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI), allowing users to avoid Rs 50 from normal rupees and leave queues at physical centers. It has been extended several times, but so far, the time limit has been set for June 14.
As per Aadhaar enrollment and update Regulations, 2016, card holders will have to update their identity (POI) and evidence of evidence (POA) every 10 years every 10 years from the date of enrollment. Regular updates ensure that the information on the base remains relevant and corresponds to the current document.
Failing to update your Aadhaar regularly can lead to issues to avail government subsidy, open bank accounts or meet other essential KYC processes. Additionally, regular updates for Aadhaar information also help government officials to maintain accuracy in the demographic database and prevent misuse, scams, or old information from delaying or refusing to reach public services.
What can be updated online
While UIDAI is offering a free base update service, it is only available for some base information. UIDAI currently allows individuals to update specific demographic details online through the Myadhaar portal. It also includes:
- Name (minor change)
- Date of birth (with some restrictions)
- Address
- gender
- Language priorities
No biometric information changes online
However, if you want to update biometric details such as your photo, fingerprint or iris scan, it can only be done in a physical base enrollment center. This is because biometric details require verification and only the centers have the necessary equipment to do so.
