Telangana 27 -year -old student Praveen Kumar Gampa was shot dead in Visconsin on Wednesday in an attempt for a suspected robbery. The family became suspicious after a stranger responded to Gampa’s phone. Later, he was informed by friends and American officials.
Allegedly, the shooting took place near Gampa’s residence, when unknown assailants set fire.
Gampa’s father, Raghavulu said that he received a WhatsApp call from his son on Wednesday morning, but he missed. When Raghavulu tried to return the call, a stranger replied, claiming that he had found Praveen’s phone, causing concerns.
Some friends said that Praveen’s body was found with bullets, his cousin Arun told the news agency PTI. Some people say that Praveen was shot and killed by unknown assailants in a store, but the family did not know the cause of the death, he said.
India’s consulate in Chicago expressed condolences on Gampa’s death. “We are saddened by the untimely death of Praveen Kumar Gampa, a postgraduate student at the Visconsin-Milvauki University. Consulate is in touch with Praveen’s family and university, to help him with all possible support. Our heartiest condolences and prayers are with his family and friends,” he wrote on a post.

Gampa moved to America in 2023 in 2023 in 2023 to get a master’s degree in Data Science at the University of Wisconsin. When the incident took place, he was working part -time in a local store.
The cause of death is being investigated, and further details are awaited.
Earlier, in December 22, a student from Sai Teja, Telangana was shot dead by armed men at a petrol pump in the American city of Chicago.
