The Ambari variety, originating from Jammu and Kashmir, was once one of the most popular apples in India, known as the “King of Kashmir”. It has a crisp texture, sweet aroma and a balanced sweet-spicy taste. Ambri apples are known for their long shelf life and are often used for both fresh consumption and desserts.

2. Chaubatiya Anupam

Chaubatiya Anupam is an early ripening, sweet, crisp, red coloured, medium sized apple. It is a hybrid variety of apple, obtained from the mixture of Early Shanbury and Red Delicious. It is cultivated on a large scale in Uttarakhand.

3. Golden Apple

The Golden Apple, also known as Golden Delicious, is famous for its yellow-green color and smooth texture. Although it is native to the United States, it is now grown in Himachal Pradesh also. The mildly sweet flavor and subtle aroma of this variety make it ideal for making applesauce, apple butter and jam, and it can also be blended for sweet and sour flavor.

4. Granny Smith

The tart and tart green apple, often synonymous with the Granny Smith apple globally, is also cultivated in Himachal Pradesh. Along with the classic tart kick, the variety grown in India has a subtle, natural sweetness due to the region’s unique climate. Known for their tart flavor, Granny Smith apples are best used in salads, juices and baking.

5. Golden Apple

Sunehari is another hybrid apple variety. It is obtained from the hybridization of Golden Delicious and Ambari apples. The peel of this apple is yellow with red stripes. The texture is crisp, and the pulp is juicy with a sweet and tangy flavor.

6. Parlin’s Beauty

This apple variety is from Tamil Nadu in South India. This variety of apple trees is best suited for the warm winter conditions prevalent in the Kodaikanal hills. Fully ripe apples of this type are attractive yellow in color with a deep red blush.

This apple is sweet with honey-like aroma and is mainly grown in Himachal Pradesh. It is eaten fresh and is also used to make juice due to its high sugar content and firm pulp.
