Police have arrested a Brampton man on charges of first-degree murder after a 26-year-old Indian-origin woman was shot dead in a targeted attack in Toronto.Toronto police said officers responded to a call of shots fired near Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard around 7:23 a.m. Friday, where they found Navneet Kaur with a gunshot wound. He was given emergency medical attention but was declared dead at the scene.Investigators allege there was a brief conversation between Kaur and the suspect before the man opened fire. Police said the suspect fled before officers arrived, but was later found and arrested by Ontario Provincial Police after further investigation.The accused, a 37-year-old man from Brampton, has been charged with first-degree murder and failure to comply with an undertaking.

The Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.A witness told CBC News that they saw a man chasing a woman who appeared to be in her 20s. The witness said the man talked to him briefly before he turned around, after which he fired one shot and fled the scene.It did not appear that there was any argument before the shooting, and they immediately called emergency services after the woman fell. They also tried to chase the suspect for a while, the witness said.
