According to a report in Gulte, Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi will be shot in Antarctica. Reportedly, the team will reach the location for one of the upcoming schedules. This would make the film one of the few feature films shot in Antarctica.
However, this is just an update and official confirmation from the manufacturers is still awaited.

Varanasi is an upcoming epic adventure film starring Mahesh Babu in the lead role. The film, directed by SS Rajamouli, features the superstar as a globe-trotting, time-traveling adventurer named Rudra. The actor is also confirmed to play the role of Lord Ram.
The makers also unveiled the first-look poster of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Priyanka is set to play the character of Mandakini, her poster shows her in a full action avatar. Interestingly, the upcoming adventure film marks the actress’ return to Indian cinema after her last appearance in The Sky Is Pink with Farhan Akhtar.
Prithviraj Sukumaran, on the other hand, plays the role of Kumbha, a supervillain with a hideous gaze who threatens everything and everyone in his path.
According to reports, Varanasi is expected to release on the big screens on March 25, 2027; However, official confirmation is still awaited. Earlier, it was also reported that the much-awaited venture will be filmed sporadically throughout 2026 and will be completed only by the end of the year.
While the lead cast of the film has been announced, the team is yet to reveal the names of the supporting actors, with reports indicating the inclusion of actors like Prakash Raj and Kiccha Sudeepa.
According to the synopsis on Letterboxd, the film follows a story where an asteroid hits the city of Varanasi, India, setting off a chain of events that could potentially ruin the world and raises the question of whether a savior must cross continents and timelines to impact the most crucial moment in Earth’s history.
