Aditya Dhar played Candy Crush during tense action sequences, says Madhavan
Madhavan shared a BTS anecdote from the sets of Dhurandhar, which revealed director Aditya Dhar’s unusual calmness during tense moments. He recalled that Dhar remained completely calm, even passing the time by playing Candy Crush.

When chaos threatens to derail key moments stalwart Set, Aditya Dhar’s reaction was unexpectedly zen. According to R Madhavan, the director was busy playing Candy Crush during some of the most important scenes of the film, a detail that has now become one of the most talked about anecdotes from the shooting of the spy thriller.
Reflecting on the film’s journey and its reception, Madhavan talked about Dhar’s amazing calmness under pressure. Actor, who plays National Security Advisor Ajit Doval stalwartrecalled how the director remained completely unaffected even when shooting was affected due to floods, rain delays and difficult scenes. Speaking in an interview with Pooja Talwar, Madhavan said that Dhar’s patience left a lasting impression on him.
He said, “The fearlessness of the man, the specificity of his storytelling, and his ability to commit like a monk to making this film without any hassles really came through. In fact, my last day of shooting was on October 29, when we shot the airplane scene. We got delayed because of floods, rains and all that stuff, and I was expecting Aditya to be at least a little upset, if not excited.”
The actor said that after one of his scenes, the audience on the set unexpectedly applauded, despite it not being a typical high-voltage moment. Jokingly, Madhavan asked Dhar if he had instructed him to clap. The director was just sitting, staring at the monitor, casually playing Candy Crush, he said. “He was very calm,” Madhavan commented, admitting that he was almost jealous of that level of patience.
She added, “He was sitting there in the chair, looking at the monitor and playing Candy Crush. I assumed that either he was extremely confident about his film, being so nonchalant and calm, or he didn’t know the challenges he faced. I was so jealous of him.”
The espionage thriller starring Ranveer Singh, Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun has received mixed responses from audiences and critics. Addressing the criticism and ratings fluctuations, Madhavan acknowledged that such reactions were inevitable.
He said that some audiences dismiss a film immediately and later watch it again with a new perspective. Emphasizing the need for evolution within the industry, Madhavan said that he does not want to be seen through the prism of traditional heroism. According to him, meaningful change is necessary for actors and filmmakers alike, which is why he believed that stalwart It was always destined to be an important film.
The makers have already confirmed its sequel stalwart Work is going on, the next chapter of which is going to be released in theaters on March 19 next year.
