Deal: Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8 have begun

This week, Samsung unveiled its next generation of foldables, including the first wide foldable in Europe (the Huawei Pura X Max never launched on the old continent). The company is also launching a pair of new smartwatches. Currently, the foldable and the watches are on pre-order – open sales start in early August. Here are some of the offers we found for the new models.

There is no offer from Amazon on Galaxy Z Fold8 or Z Fold8 Ultra. However, for some reason there is a €50 coupon for the Galaxy Z Flip8. By the way, there is no free storage upgrade this time. You should also check out Samsung Germany, which offers a €100 discount with the code paypal8 (And payment via PayPal of course).

Samsung also refreshed its smartwatches – after two years, the Galaxy Watch Ultra finally got a sequel and there’s also a new vanilla Galaxy Watch (but no Classic in this generation). Samsung has created three watch bands for each model, each aimed at different use cases (like diving, running, etc.). You get one band with the watch, but if you want another band, you will get a small discount.

While the Z Flip7 has disappeared from store shelves, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is still around. Compared to the Z Fold8 Ultra, you do miss out on the battery upgrade – the new model has a 5,000mAh battery, up from 4,400mAh on this one. And it has faster wired (45W vs 25W) and wireless charging (20W vs 15W). The dimensions are essentially the same (the new one is slightly thinner when opened, but it’s still 8.9mm when closed). His weight is also the same.

The new model features a fancy new Flex Titanium structure, which promises to be more durable, as well as an anti-reflective coating for the internal display. Only the ultra-wide camera has been upgraded, now with a 50MP sensor (up from 12MP). And of course the new for Galaxy chipset is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 (up from the previous 8 Elite for the Galaxy).

Google only has a book-style foldable, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and no flip. The new Pixel 11 series is arriving on August 12, so the Galaxy will be replaced just a few days after it hits the market. For completeness, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a 6.4” cover display and an 8.0” inner display. It is powered by the Tensor G5 and a 5,015mAh battery (30W wired, 15W wireless charging). It has a 48MP main, 10.8MP 5x/112mm periscope and 10.5MP ultra-wide camera. The Pixel has improved IP68 dust and water resistance.

Motorola recently launched its first book-style foldable, the Moto Razr Fold. It’s rated IP48 and IP49 – better water resistance than the Galaxy (IP48), but similar ingress protection (“4” isn’t actually dust protection). The Razr has a 6.6” cover and 8.1” inner display. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (not Elite) and a large 6,000mAh Si/C battery with fast charging (80W wired, 50W wireless). It has a 50MP main camera, 50MP 3x/71mm periscope and 50MP ultra-wide.

The Motorola Razr 70 is a basic Flip, not really intended to compete with the Z Flip8. It has a 3.6” cover and a 6.9” internal display. It’s powered by the Dimensity 7450X and a larger 4,800mAh battery (500mAh more than the Galaxy) with similar charging (30W/15W). It has two 50MP cameras, one wide and one ultra-wide.

Samsung didn’t bother to improve the cameras on the Z8 foldables. The Z Fold8 Ultra has a 200MP main (and so does the Z Fold7) and a 50MP ultra-wide, but the 10MP 3x telephoto module won’t win any competitions. The Z Fold8 only has a 50MP main and a 50MP ultra-wide and the Z Flip8 is the worst with a 50MP main and a 12MP ultra-wide (neither of them have a tele lens).

If the camera is more important than the folding action, you can get the Vivo X300 Pro for less money than the Z Flip8. And remember that the Z Flip8 uses the Exynos 2600 for Europe, while Vivo has the Dimensity 9500. It has a 50MP main (with a larger 1/1.28″ sensor), a 200MP 3.7x/85mm telephoto and a 50MP ultra-wide. It is powered by a 5,440mAh battery (90W/40W charging) and has a 6.78″ LTPO OLED display.

Amazon offers a free 90W Flash Charge adapter with the Vivo X300 Pro. You can also get it with the smaller Vivo X300 (12/256GB, €860) and Vivo X300 FE (12/512GB, €860 after €140 voucher).

You can also take a look at the Xiaomi 17T Pro – its camera isn’t as capable as Vivo’s, but it’s cheaper while packing the same Dimensity 9500 chipset. The cameras are a 50MP main (with the same 1/1.31″ sensor), a 50MP 5x/115mm periscope, and a 12MP ultra-wide. This model has a 6.83″ non-LTPO OLED display and a large 7,000mAh battery (100W/50W charging). By the way, the Android 17 update is already rolling out to 17T Pro owners.

The Xiaomi 17T hasn’t received the update yet, but it’s worth a look too. It’s smaller, with a 6.59″ display and a 6,500mAh battery (67W wired-only charging). It uses the Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset and has a similar camera setup – 50MP main (smaller 1/1.55″ sensor), 50MP 5x/115mm periscope and 12MP ultra-wide. You can get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 at a much lower price than what Samsung charges. The Poco F8 Ultra is a large phone with a 6.9″ display and a 6,500mAh battery (100W/50W). It also has a solid set of cameras – 50MP main (1/1.31″), 50MP 5x/115mm periscope and 50MP ultra-wide.

The Poco F8 Pro is cheaper and has the last generation Snapdragon 8 Elite. Like the vanilla 17T, it’s smaller, with a 6.59″ display and a 6,210mAh battery (100W).
