Vikram
The 1986 action-adventure film ‘Vikram’ directed by Rajashekhar starred Kamal Haasan, Sathyaraj, Amjad Khan, Ambika, Dimple Kapadia, Lissy, Charuhasan and Janagaraj. The film marked the first time in Kollywood that computers were used to record songs and the music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
Thevar Magan
Directed by Bharathan, the film was written by Kamal Haasan. This 1992 film based on caste politics received critical acclaim. It was the first time screenwriting software was used in Tamil cinema.
Indian
Kamal Haasan played a dual role of a former freedom fighter and his son in ‘Indian’ directed by Shankar. For the first time in Indian cinema, prosthetic makeup was used to create Kamal Haasan’s look as a former freedom fighter general.
mumbai express
Kamal Haasan’s ‘Mumbai Express’ was the first Indian film shot in digital format. It was made simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi with the same title. However, the film did not do well at the box office.
Vishwaroopam
‘Vishwaroopam’ was the first Indian film to use the new Auro 3D sound technology. The film faced a lot of trouble and was banned in Tamil Nadu. Kamal Haasan went to court to get the ban lifted.

‘Virumandi’ directed by Kamal Haasan is one of the iconic films of Tamil cinema. This film is a source of inspiration for many. It was the first Tamil film to use a live sound recording system.

Kamal Haasan played the dual roles of hero and villain in ‘Aalavandhan’ directed by Suresh Krishna. It was the first film in India to use motion control rigs to capture the motion of images. Also, it was the first film in India to use animation sequences.
