A Pakistani delivery driver who raped a vulnerable woman shortly after leaving a hospital in West Sussex has been jailed for eight years and three months.Sulaiman Mukash, 27, who was living in Britain on a student visa, approached the woman in a car park near Worthing Hospital on March 11 and attacked the woman, who arrived at the hospital drunk, confused and unsteady on her feet, Hove Crown Court told the BBC.The court was told the woman attempted to hold on to a wall as Mukash grabbed her and placed her on the bonnet of a car before raping her.A short time later the victim was found by a member of the public and she reported that she had been raped. Police were called, and the woman was able to identify the vehicle involved. Investigators later recovered a handprint and fingerprints from the car.Mukash was arrested two days after the attack at Gatwick Airport, where he was found to be in possession of a one-way ticket to Pakistan. Later, in the last court hearing, she confessed to the rape.Sentencing her on Tuesday, Judge Christine Henson Casey said the victim was “at her most vulnerable” when she was attacked by a stranger in a car park next to the hospital she had just left.The judge said the psychological impact on the woman was severe, adding that she was unable to return to hospital as the incident continued in flashback.During the case, Mukash claimed that he had stopped after seeing the woman in distress and intended to help her. His defense stated that he alleged that the woman had asked him for money and that he had offered it on the understanding that he could do whatever he wanted.However, the defense acknowledged that the woman did not have the capacity to give consent.The court heard Mukash studied computer science and completed a master’s degree. He had graduate leave to remain in the UK until 2028.In addition to his prison sentence, Mukash will be on extended license for the next three years following his release.
