12 foreigners killed, 23 missing in forest fire in Spain

A rapidly spreading wildfire swept through areas of southern Spain on Friday, killing at least 12 people as they trapped people in burning vehicles and tried to flee on foot. The death toll from the wildfires, already the highest in Spain’s recent history, could rise as authorities said 23 people were still unaccounted for. He said many of the victims were believed to be foreigners. The fire, which started on Thursday in an area of ​​steep ravines, has destroyed forests and bushland in the Los Gallardos region of Andalusia. An unidentified man evacuated said he had seen “gas cylinders exploding, houses on fire, windows breaking”.
