Actress Pooja Batra has said that she lost film roles because some male stars were uncomfortable with how they would look next to her on screen. In a recent interview, Batra, who acted in films like Virasat, Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, Jodi No. 1, Nayak: The Real Hero And The Hunt: The Hunt BeginsSaid that his height became a real hindrance in his career.

She said the issue was initially raised by actress Sangeeta Bijlani, whom she admired. Batra also recalled the adjustments she had to make on set, ranging from changing the way she dressed to doing “half-splits” in close-up shots so her co-stars would look taller. He said that Salman Khan is the only actor who never had any problem with his height.

Batra, who made his Hindi film debut with Priyadarshan’s 1997 film HeritageSaid that she would do “half-splits” in close-up shots to make her heroes look taller. She also said that she wore color-coordinated outfits in the film to look younger on screen.

She said that she often uses her own clothes to wear skimpy clothes in films and to bring her personal fashion sense to her characters. According to Batra, when she came to the set in her wardrobe, the director would sometimes say, “Let her wear what she is wearing.” Additionally, they would also ask her to remove makeup for a more natural look. “I was like, at least sunblock then let it apply (Let me wear sunblock),” she said, laughing.

Batra said that Salman Khan is the only actor who never had any problem with his height. The two worked together in K Murali Mohana Rao’s 2000 romantic comedy You may fall in love. Recalling that experience, she said, “Salman never had any problems. He was the kind of person who would say, ‘Wear your heels, I don’t have any problems’. He was confident about his skin.”

Batra said that she and Bijlani helped open doors for tall women in the industry. Referring to Sushmita Sen and Deepika Padukone, she said, “They should say, ‘Thank you'” and laughed. She also said, “Even in Hollywood, I respect all the tall actresses like Naomi Watts and Charlize Theron. I know how hard it is for a woman to get there, regardless of height.”

He said Hindi cinema has moved forward because perceptions and cinemascopes have changed. According to Batra, frames now work differently on screen and can minimize how tall a person looks, while shorter people can sometimes look thicker than they are.
