World Environment Day 2024: Earth is our home – the only home we know. From the day we are born to the day we die, this earth nurtures us and makes us the person we become.
It provides us with all the resources we need for living and our well-being. For both physical and mental well-being, nature is perfect to provide us with the best. However, mankind has been unkind to nature.
Humans have destroyed natural resources, cut down forests and lead to pollution and global warming. It is time we turn to nature and start saving it. Every year, World Environment Day is observed to raise awareness about climate change, global warming, deforestation and loss of biodiversity. As we prepare to celebrate the special day, here are some things we should keep in mind.
In 1972, on 5 June, the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was held in Stockholm, Sweden. In honor of this day, in 1973, the world celebrated its first World Environment Day. Since then, every year, the special day is celebrated on the same day.
“According to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, 40 percent of the Earth’s land has been degraded, directly affecting half the world’s population. The number and duration of droughts has increased by 29 percent since 2000 – without urgent action, droughts could affect three-quarters of the world’s population by 2050. Can,” the United Nations wrote on their official website.
