Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has sparked a debate after supporting Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel’s remarks in which she urged women to learn to cook for their families, regardless of their profession. Patel’s speech at a recent event in Kanpur went viral on social media, and Ranaut responded to a post containing the video on X on Sunday in support of the governor’s comments.

“Today women must learn to cook for their families, whether you become a teacher or an IAS officer. You must first become an expert mother,” Patel said in her speech. She further said, “What is the duty of a mother? To train her daughter in every way. She should not face any difficulties in her in-laws. And if it happens, she should deal with them on the basis of her own merit. We need to give that strength to our daughters.”
Backing up those comments, Ranaut said that women are nurtured naturally. Recalling his childhood, he wrote, “When we were young, my brother used to play football and cricket, but I carefully made doll houses, sewed their clothes and cooked their food, to entertain everyone in the house. I built small houses stove (stove) and pretended to be the doll mother.
She further added, “It is not something we need to learn. God has entrusted us with the duty of nurturing humanity, it is our true nature, that is why women are called Goddess, Shakti, Annapurna, Mata and many such forms, but beyond all this, it is a great joy to love, feed, dance and nurture.”

In the same speech, Patel also referred to recent incidents of women allegedly killing their future husbands to escape marriages arranged by their families and described such cases as “unfathomable”. After this, online criticism of Ranaut’s support started.
An ex user wrote, “Cooking is a patriarchy that has been going on for a million years and it is shameful to see @KanganaTeam glorifying it.” Another commented, “Cooking is a survival skill, everyone, no matter their gender, should know how to cook good food.” A third user wrote, “It has become very difficult to support you, Kangana (facepal emoji).”
The episode has placed Patel’s viral comments and Ranaut’s response at the center of a broader online argument over gender roles, with the actor’s support for the governor’s comments prompting both support and criticism.
