Director David Frankel said he is open to returning for a third film of The Devil Wears Prada. The cast, including Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, previously shared what would be required to produce part three.
Director David Frankel has said he’s open to returning for a third time the devil Wears Prada film. His comments came after the sequel’s strong box office performance, leading to speculation about another instalment.

Frankel said that he did not expect to make another film at first. But with the sequel doing well and talk growing about a part three, he made it clear that he would be willing to revisit the story if the right opportunity presented itself. The cast has also said that any third film would depend on a strong script and all the principal cast members agreeing to return.

When asked if he would consider returning for a second chapter, he said, “If there’s an opportunity to revisit the characters and share a few months with these amazing actors again, obviously, I would love that.”
Old favorites and new faces
The filmmaker also talked about expanding the franchise with new faces. Frankel said, “There are very, very funny people in this movie. Justin Theroux is hilarious. B.J. Novak is hilarious. Caleb Herron is hilarious. Simone Ashley, in little moments, steals every scene. Helen J. Shane is fantastic. So, it’s nice to bring in a new generation of actors and let them play.”
Balancing nostalgia with a new story
Frankel also recalled Hathaway’s description of the sequel and said, “We were getting the band back for a new album and going on tour and playing new songs, but the audience also wants to hear the old hits. So, it’s a little bit of new material sprinkled in the old hits.”
In a separate interview, Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt also explained what would be required for the third film. talking to PeopleStreep said it would come down to “the script”. Blunt agreed, saying “A good script. It’s all about the script,” while Hathaway said “Everyone has to say yes.”
Blunt said it would also require a “core four”, referring to the three actors and Stanley Tucci. Streep then joked, “They have to survive.”
