Thalapathy Vijay starrer Jana Nayakan was earlier scheduled to release on January 9, 2026. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film is yet to hit the big screens as it awaits its censor certificate. Now it seems that this film may be released in theaters by May 2026.
Will Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayakan release in May 2026?
According to a report in Valai Pechu, the makers of Janaa Nayagan have received an email from the review committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Apparently, the screening of the film will be done by the committee on March 9, 2026 at 2 pm.
If the censor process goes smoothly, the film may hit the big screens as early as May 2026 after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are over. However, this is just a report and is yet to be officially confirmed.

Jana Nayakan starring Thalapathy Vijay is seen as the last cinematic appearance of the superstar. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film tells the story of Thalapathy Vetri Kondan, a former police officer and convict who adopts a young girl named Viji and is determined to raise her into a strong and independent woman. He also convinces him to join the army, despite the fear of violence.

Recently, Thalapathy Vijay has been making headlines due to the news of his apparent divorce from his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam. The couple, who have been married for almost 27 years, are reportedly headed towards divorce, with the superstar agreeing to pay an alimony of Rs 250 crore.
During their marriage, the couple also had two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha.
