Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue is one of the most famous manga series. The serialization of this manga started in 1998 and it has entertained thousands of fans with its gripping story and great characters. However, one complaint that fans have always had about this manga is that it does not have an anime adaptation.

Recently, there has been speculation and excitement among fans as it has been revealed that the makers of the hugely successful Netflix animated series Arcane have expressed interest in adapting Vagabond into an anime. This potential adaptation has raised hopes among fans that they can finally see their favorite manga come to life on screen.

Fortich is interested in making a Vagabond anime

According to a report by Crunchyroll, Pascal Chareau, co-founder of French animation studio Fortich, has expressed keen interest in adapting Takehiko Inoue’s Vagabond into an anime. Best known for his work on the acclaimed Netflix series Arcane, Fortich discussed his upcoming project, Penelope of Sparta, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2024.

When asked if he could adapt any manga into an anime with his team, which one would he choose, Charu replied that he would choose Vagabond. He said that Takehiko Inoue’s work is a masterpiece with amazing artwork that he would love to bring to life. He also mentioned Naoki Urasawa, the creator of Monster, but said that his work has been seen in a lot of anime adaptations.

Charu also stressed the importance of selecting manga that would benefit from animation and expressed concern about maintaining the original pacing during the adaptation, which is a common challenge in anime production.

So will Vagabond get an anime adaptation?

Although Pascal Chareau expressed his interest in making a Vagabond anime, it was by no means confirmed. So, we don’t know if the acclaimed manga will ever actually be animated. Although fans have been waiting for an anime adaptation of Vagabond for years, we don’t know if it will ever come.

However, if Vagabond were to be made animated, Fortich would be the best choice for it. The studio did a phenomenal job with Arcane, which is based on the League of Legends universe. If Netflix also joins them with Arcane, Takehiko Inoue’s Vagabond could get the much-awaited anime adaptation that fans have been waiting for.
