Paapa Essiedu has been inserted as Seveerus Snap in JK Rowling’s favorite book franchise, Harry Potter’s upcoming series optimization. But did the actor risk his job by signing a letter, supporting trans and broad LGBTQ+ community, which has been affected by the Supreme Court’s gender decision?
Rowling has been vocal about his controversial opinion about the trans community. However, he is not allegedly disturbed by Essedu’s decision to stand in solidarity with him. An internal source told Melonine that the author “does not care” at all.
She is aware of the power of Harry Potter franchise and feels that it is larger than any individual artists. “For that, this is the usual business,” the source said. The purpose of the Rowling is to continue the construction of the Harry Potter brand, while it promotes for “women’s rights”.
The controversy arose when a trans rights activist called Essedu a hypocritical to support the community, while indirectly worked under Rowling. The activist accused the actor of virtue-signs, who branded his stance as “plain and hollow”, not to leave a show inspired by Rowling books.
Essiedu was not criticized even further. Some critics joined the conversation, pointing to the same alleged hypocrisy. One admitted that his casting on the show would promote his career, but will also be criticized for “working on a project working on a project” in Rowling’s pocket.
He argued that his decision says a lot about his “values” and that a signature on a letter is not enough to redeem him. “This is just plain hollow. If you really care, call him out,” said another critic.
Sources told Melonine that despite the dispute, Essedu would not be evacuated. It is also unlikely that he will give up a big opportunity, which can potentially turn him into fame and fate. The actor has not yet publicly commented on the controversy.
Essiedu will be ventured into a first depicted role by the late Allen Ricman, who captured the stone-thunde essence of Severus Snap in the original film series.
