Will Jurassic World: Rebirth acknowledge fan-favorite spinoffs Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory?

Must read

If there is another franchise that has kept everyone glued to their seats, it is Jurassic World. The franchise has been continuously making films, with the last film being Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World: Dominion which will be released in 2022.

The upcoming film in the franchise, Jurassic World: Rebirth, is all set to release next summer. This week, Universal revealed the official title and plot details of the fourth film, directed by Gareth Edwards, along with some first-look photos.

Set five years after the events of 2022’s Jurassic World: Dominion, this science-fiction actioner will feature several characters trying to extract DNA from the planet’s largest surviving dinosaurs. This detail in the synopsis raised questions about the franchise’s timeline, specifically if it will acknowledge the animated spinoffs, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.

In 2020, Camp Cretaceous premiered on Netflix. It follows a group of teenagers who find themselves accidentally stranded on Isla Nublar during the events of 2015’s Jurassic World. The series had a total of five seasons and over the course of it, Camp Fan transformed into a family that fought off numerous dinosaur and human threats.

Talking about Chaos Theory, the series first dropped on Netflix earlier this year, six years after the events of Camp Cretaceous. It follows the reunion of camp fans who, as young adults, investigated the possible murder of one of its members.

According to showrunner Scott Kreamer, the series was initially set five years after Dominion, but due to production delays, they had to change the gap to six years. So according to the theory, the first season of Chaos Theory is placed one year after the events of Rebirth. Another interesting fact here is that in Chaos Theory, the dinosaurs were scattered all over America, however, according to Rebirth, Earth is no longer habitable for dinosaurs outside of the isolated equatorial environment.

Much of Chaos Theory’s first season revolved around the Camp Fan reunion, so it’s safe to say this group won’t be a part of the live-action reunion in Rebirth. However, if the two animated series are incorporated into the upcoming film, it would make the entire Jurassic World franchise even more coherent.

Jurassic World: Rebirth is scheduled to release on July 2, 2025. The ensemble cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Béchir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein.
