Will JPMorgan provide forecast market services to clients? CEO Jamie Dimon told the company to stay away from sports and politics. world News

JPMorgan Chase, one of the world’s largest banks and a leading global financial services firm, is exploring a possible move into prediction markets, with CEO Jamie Dimon hinting that the bank could expand into the area, while setting clear limits on how far it would go.Speaking in an interview with “CBS Evening News” anchor Tony Dokoupil, Dimon said the bank is considering providing prediction market services to clients, referencing platforms such as Kalshi and PolyMarkets. These platforms allow users to bet on a wide variety of outcomes, including sporting events and elections.“It’s possible that one day we’ll do something like this,” Dimon said, indicating that the idea is under consideration rather than a definite plan. He made it clear that JPMorgan would stay away from certain areas, saying, “We won’t be in sports. We won’t be in politics. There are a lot of things we won’t do.” He also stressed that any such offering would operate under strict controls, especially around insider information.During the interview, Dokoupil asked whether prediction markets should be viewed as gambling or investing. Dimon responded that they are very similar to gambling but acknowledged that there are some exceptions. “I think for the most part, it’s like gambling,” he said, adding that in some cases it can be viewed as investing when participants have strong knowledge and are effectively taking positions based on informed decisions.Given its widespread presence in various countries, Dimon said he is not generally opposed to gambling. However, he drew a line on harmful behaviour, saying that he is against it when it becomes an addiction that harms life. Explaining his personal stance, he said that individuals should have the freedom to make their own choices, as long as they take responsibility for their actions.
