Why are Washington DC residents leaving the city ahead of Trump’s inauguration?

As the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump approaches, Washington DC residents may want to flee and not be around “that type of hostile negative energy.”

With only 2 days left for Trump to take office, residents are planning to stay away from the event.

As the Guardian reports, D.C. resident Alejandra Whitney-Smith has already made plans to leave the city and spend a week in a cabin with no technology. “It (inauguration weekend) coincides with my birthday weekend, which I usually spend in D.C., but when the election happened, I said to myself, ‘Oh, no, I can’t live here,'” she said.

Speaking about Trump’s re-election, he said that it “represents the ugly side of America that people don’t want to accept”.

She recalled the fear that was instilled in Smith when her mother was working at the Library of Congress during the January 6 attack on the US Capitol by Trump’s supporters, two months after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election .

She plans to do some vision boarding, reflection and reconnection during inauguration weekend.

Expressing his disappointment, he acknowledged that he was confident that the people of the United States saw what happened during Trump’s first term and that they “will not go back”, but he also said that he knew that America’s People were not ready for their first black female president. ,

“But I also know the reality of living as a Black woman in this country. As much as I wanted Harris to win, there was something inside me that still told me America was not ready for its first Black female president Not only this, she said, she was contesting against Donald Trump, whose followers are almost cult-like and very powerful.

Tia Butler, another DC resident, says memories of the January 6 riot and encountering pro-life protesters after the 2020 election make her “not want to be in the city during the inauguration festivities.” He says that his views are very different from the supporters of the newly elected President. “It says to me that we would rather have our country led by a black man than by a criminal or by a woman,” he said.

But it shows one side of America. On the other hand, many conservatives and Republican supporters are excited about the inauguration. As of Wednesday, the city’s hotels were 70% booked and were fetching $900 to $1,500 per night.

Having said that, Trump does not have the best of relations with Washington DC. He’s branded D.C. a “filthy and crime-ridden embarrassment to our country” and has vowed to radically remake the capital, even recruiting billionaire Elon Musk to slash the federal workforce.
