‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ Beloved star Tony Slattery dies at 65

Tony Slattery, a beloved comedian and actor best known for his role in the show ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ , known for his role in, has died at the age of 65.

His family confirmed the news through a statement to the BBC, revealing that he died on Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack on Sunday evening.

A statement issued by his partner Mark Michael Hutchinson said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of actor and comedian Tony Slattery, aged 65, from a heart attack on Sunday evening. Died today, Tuesday morning.”

Slattery was featured in Channel 4’s hit comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? He rose to fame as a series regular in , in which he appeared during its first seven seasons.

Hosted by Clive Anderson, the show was a pioneer in improv comedy and gained a strong following. It eventually found success in the US, airing on ABC and The CW.

In addition to his success on television, Slattery also made a name for himself in the British comedy world. He starred in shows such as OTT and Saturday Stayback and was a familiar face on various panel shows during the 1980s and 1990s.

In addition to television, Slattery had a notable career in film and theatre. He appeared in acclaimed films such as The Crying Game, Peter’s Friends, How to Get Ahead in Advertising, and To Die For.

In theatre, his talent was recognized with an Olivier Award nomination for Best Comedy Performance for the role of Gordon in Neville’s Island, written by Tim Firth.

In recent years, Slattery remained active in the entertainment industry. He was touring with a comedy show and hosting a podcast called Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club.

Born in 1959, Slattery attended Cambridge University, where he joined the prestigious Footlights comedy group with Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and Emma Thompson. He eventually became president of the group, a position that marked the beginning of his rise in comedy.

Slattery is survived by his partner of more than 30 years, Mark Michael Hutchinson. Fans and colleagues alike have taken to social media to express their condolences and celebrate his contributions to comedy and entertainment.
