Hector Deleon, 51, a homeless and emotionally disturbed man, was arrested in connection with a horrific stabbing incident at Penn Station, New York City’s largest transit hub, on Sunday evening. According to officials, Amtrak police first responded to the deadly attack around 7 p.m. By that time, five victims had already been killed and all of them had been taken to hospital. DeLeon was arrested at the scene and a knife was recovered from the scene. One of the victims, Henry Obadiah, recalled the stabbing incident, telling The New York Post that he did not even realize he had been hit in the face. Obadiah said, “He came at me to kill me! I saw anger in his eyes.” It was a random attack and Obadiah fell into Delian’s path. “The crazy guy locked his eyes on me and cornered me! Looked right into my face and I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ And I heard the guy on the escalator say, ‘He’s got a knife!’ He has a knife!”“I didn’t even realize I was hit in the face,” he said.Until Obadiah saw his reflection on the phone, he thought he had been punched silly. “I thought he just punched me. I thought my lip was busted and I saw blood, but I looked at my phone and saw a big gash on my face and I immediately went to the police and said, ‘I’ve just been attacked,'” he said.Obadiah walked with the police along a large trail of blood and saw another young victim sitting on the floor holding a towel over his wound.Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted after the incident, “My heart goes out to all those who were injured, their loved ones and all those traumatized by this unacceptable violence. I wish each victim a full and speedy recovery.” “I am grateful to the Amtrak Police Department and first responders who took quick action to apprehend the suspect and provide emergency care.”
