WhatsApp is bringing a new update focused on user privacy, rolling a feature called advanced chat privacy. This latest setting gives people more control over what happens on their messages, especially in groups where not everyone is known individually.
With this feature, users can block chat exports, prevent media from being automatically saved, and their messages from being used by AI-based tools outside WhatsApp. This feature adds a new layer of safety, creating already existing options on WhatsApp and disappearing messages and chat lox.
Announcing the update through a blog post, the company said that the new setting is for chat which includes sensitive topics, but it includes members who do not know each other very well.
“This new setting available in both chats and groups helps prevent others from taking materials outside WhatsApp when you want extra privacy,” said WhatsApp.
Users can turn on this feature by opening any chat or group, tapping the chat name and selecting advanced chat privacy. Once operational, it applies to all in that conversation. This means that no one will be able to export messages or use them with AI tools, and the media will not be automatically saved on its equipment.
WhatsApp says this setting will be useful in health aid communities or problem-based discussions such as semi-public groups, where users may prefer additional protection when sharing personal information.
This is the first version of the feature. WhatsApp has stated that there are more improvements in the way and users can expect even more strong privacy options in future updates. This feature is now being rolled out globally and should be available to all users with the latest version of the app in the coming days.
“We feel that this feature is best done when talking with groups where you do not know closely, but are sensitive in nature, such as talking about health challenges in a help group or organizing your community about something important for you.
