Weekly Survey: Nothing Phone (4A) and Phone (4A) Pro are waiting for your approval

Despite branching out into lower and higher-end segments, Nothing is still primarily a mid-range company. The fourth generation started shipping this week with vanilla models, although the Pro is only now starting its pre-order phase.

The Nothing Phone (4a) closes the all-important camera gap with a 50MP 3.5x/80mm telephoto module. In fact, its camera is almost identical to that of the (4A) Pro – last year, better camera hardware was a major reason to pay the Pro premium.

This year, both the models differ mainly in construction and performance. The vanilla (4A) won’t see a huge jump in performance compared to the (3A) – yes, it uses faster storage, but UFS 3.1 isn’t the fastest and the Snapdragon 7S Gen 4 is only marginally better than the 7S Gen 3. This model also uses the older LPDDR4X RAM.

The Nothing Phone (4A) Pro has an aluminum frame, a first for the A-series. With its Glyph Matrix display on the front and back, it looks more like last year’s phone (3) flagship than the A-series models. The regular (4A) has a plastic build, but it still feels solidly built (see our review post for a closer look).

The other thing in the Pro is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. This brings a more tangible upgrade in performance (especially in graphics). It helps that the chipset is coupled with fast LPDDR5X RAM and a vapor chamber for cooling.

There are some other differences too, but the build and chipset will be the major factors when deciding between the Nothing Phone (4A) and the (4A) Pro. The glyph designs are quite different – the (4A) has a simple bar, while the (4A) Pro has a dot-matrix display – but we think only hardcore Nothing fans care. Are we wrong?
