Voiceover artist Aakash Ahuja recalls dubbing for Shinchan: It was very dirty
Actor Akash Ahuja opens up about the challenges and controversies he faced while dubbing for the animated show Shinchan that was banned in India. He shares insights about content issues and the personal stress he experienced during the process.

In a recent interview with motor mouth YouTube channel, actor Akash Ahuja shared his experience of dubbing for the controversial animated show Shinchan when it was banned in India.
Ahuja revealed that despite her playful presence in the show, it contained a lot of inappropriate content for young audiences. “I’ve seen Shinchan dance naked, and I’ve also dubbed for him,” he revealed, revealing that while dubbing, the actors were initially asked to record questionable scenes, which would be reviewed later. “He used to sing lines like ‘elephant, my dear elephant,’ and it was very ugly. Even adults shouldn’t watch it, it was so dirty. They will censor it later.
After the show was banned in India due to its content, Ahuja said how the controversy only increased its popularity. He recalled a particular line from the show – Moti Budhiya who steals children (The child is kidnapping the fat old woman) – This became a point of controversy.
He said, “After the case was registered, we did about 150-200 episodes. I was called and all those lines were changed; Otherwise, Shinchan would never have been put on the air.” The changed content allowed the show to return to Indian television, albeit with significant modifications.
Ahuja also shared the physical pressure that came with voice acting as she grew up. “My voice was also reaching adolescence. The kind of voice I could produce at the age of 10, I could not produce at the age of 15. At one point, there was so much stress that I had to go to an ENT doctor,” he said.
The doctor warned him that continuing with loud work could damage his voice. Additionally, the extensive time spent wearing headphones raised concerns about the potential impact on their hearing.
Shinchan, a Japanese animated series originally targeted at adults, gained significant attention in India after it was marketed towards children.
