Introduction

Vivo’s V line of camera-focused, flagship devices hasn’t become a staple. It offers a solid and all-round experience, with a clear emphasis on camera performance, all inside a slick package that hits all the basics without (usually) breaking the bank.

Vivo V70 Review

Today, we’re looking at the regular Vivo V70. A V70 Elite model is also available this year, but only for certain markets. We’re not quite sure how it relates to the previous Pro line, but regardless, the regular V70 is clearly a direct successor to the V60.

It’s all about subtle changes, tuning and small refinements with the V series. Vivo almost never makes sweeping changes. So much, in fact, that the chipsets powering phones rarely change from generation to generation. The V70 is a perfect example of this, carrying over to the Vivo V60’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4.

All that being said, the V70 certainly isn’t a carbon copy of last year’s model. In fact, design-wise, the V70 brings the biggest change in some time, and is now followed by the more expensive Vivo X300 series.

Interestingly, the V70 has shrunk in all dimensions compared to last year. The curvy display is also gone. There’s now a smaller 6.59-inch flat AMOLED with wide-rounded corners. The overall build quality has also improved, and the bill of materials now includes an aluminum frame and a glass or fiber-reinforced plastic back side.

There have also been other admittedly small upgrades here and there, like a reimagined telephoto, now at 85mm and a 3.7x zoom factor, 4K@60fps video capture capabilities, a brighter selfie camera, and an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint reader.

unbox

The Vivo V70 comes in a thick, two-piece cardboard box. Unfortunately, inside the box is a plastic cradle, which isn’t particularly eco-friendly.

Vivo V70 Review

The Vivo V70 has a solid support package – at least the unit we received appears to be from Thailand. Our retail box came with a 90W charger and a USB Type-A to Type-C cable. Make sure you keep an eye on both if you want the fastest charging speeds possible.

Plus there’s a nice transparent TPU case in the box, so you can start using your shiny new phone right away, worry-free.
