Viral video: Man claims to find excessive ‘palm oil’ in Kwality Wall’s vanilla cups, company responds

The video featuring Kwality Wall’s vanilla ice cream cup has garnered 21.8 million views on Instagram. In the clip, the customer questions the quality of ingredients used by the popular food company. He shows the vanilla cup which was allegedly left “unopened overnight” and the ‘ice cream’ had not melted by the morning. Next, the man removes the lid and tilts the cup over a tissue paper and we see a yellowish-golden coloured liquid oozing out. The man says “It’s purely palm oil”. Kwality Wall’s has responded to the video.

In a video posted by Shreyaan Daga (@shreyaan.daga), he says, “So guys we left this vanilla ice cream unopened overnight and when we opened it in the morning, it was an ice cream, it still hadn’t melted. And when we tried to pour it down, it was all palm oil, so much palm oil, can’t even handle it. So this is the vanilla ice cream we had.”

In the caption, he wrote, “Surprised by this, but I’ve been a fan of @kwalitywalls since childhood and have full faith in @hul.news (Hindustan Unilever Limited) that they will minimise the health impact.”

The video has gone viral and has garnered over 10 thousand comments and 300 thousand likes. Many people have commented that this is not real ‘ice cream’ and it is a ‘frozen dessert’ made of oil.

One wrote, “Quality Wall’s has never sold ice cream. It has always sold frozen desserts made mostly of oil. You won’t find the word ice cream on its entire packaging.”

Another commented, “They should name it oil cream so that people can understand. They have even made it look like ice cream to confuse people.”

One Instagram user said, “Those who are saying ‘why didn’t you read the packet’ need to understand that nobody should eat beaten oil [People are saying ‘Why didn’t you read the packet?’ Need to understand: No one should eat whipped oil]”The onus is on brands to not deceive their customers, not on customers to take extra precautions to not be deceived.”

NDTV reached out to Quality Walls but has not yet received a comment.
